
Expo ribbon-cutting ceremony
The 2010 China Industry Expo-Myanmar was held successfully in Rangoon, Myanmar, on 15-18 December. This Expo was organized cooperatively by Trade Development Bureau of MOFCOM, PRC (TDB), Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province and China Economic & Trade Consultants Corp. Many distinguished guests from China and Myanmar attended its opening ceremony and cut the ribbon, and visited the Expo as well. VIPs including Mr. Wang Zongying, Deputy Chief of Mission of Chinese Embassy, Mr. Jin Honggen, Economic and Commercial Counselor and Mr. Gao Hua, Cultural Counselor, as well as political and commercial leaders from Myanmar: Major General of the Department of Defense, Chairman of Rangoon Division of Peace and Development Council, Rangoon Major, Vice Minister of Ministry of Commerce and Vice Director of Trade Department, Chairman of The Union of Myanmar Federation of Industry & Commerce and others. The news about the Expo was reported by several well-known media as Xinhua News Agency and Guangming Daily etc.. This Expo turned out to be very successful.

I. General introduction about the Expo
The Exhibition of the 2010 Expo- Myanmar covered an area of almost 2,700 square meters, with over 50 enterprises and companies from a dozen of Chinese provinces as exhibitors. Its exhibits could be divided into such categories as mechanical equipment, agricultural machinery, conveyance, metalwork, construction materials, small-sized power facility, consumer electronics, home appliances, household goods, apparatus and instrument, and office supplies etc. Altogether, there were about 6,000 visitors coming to the Expo, most of which came from Myanmar and neighbor countries and areas. According to the exhibitors’ feedbacks, this Expo produced positive effects.
During the exhibition, TDB sponsored an event featuring the promotion of Chinese brands and companies through promotion video replays, distribution of promotional materials and on-site display by companies. The events introduced Chinese brands and companies to Myanmar’s media and purchasers, which will further develop trade with Myanmar, and establish extensive and intensive cooperation with Myanmar’s communities.

II. The Results of Expo
In addition to gain a better understanding of Myanmar market, Chinese enterprises and companies also strengthened their confidence in exploring this foreign market through the Expo; meanwhile it provided a good chance for Myanmar companies to know Chinese enterprises and brands more directly. After exhibition and negotiation, 74% enterprises believed there existed great demands in Myanmar market, and more than half enterprises expressed their willingness to attend the Expo next year.
According to the result of the questionnaire concerning this exhibition, almost 80% enterprises appreciated its positive result. About half of enterprises believed the exhibition met local market demands, and that the Expo provided a good chance to make contact with local clients, build potential trade channel and define their product orientation. Other enterprises considered Myanmar market as a great potential market, however, they thought it needed time to cultivate it.
